Using the Search

The Rental Search Tool provides powerful filtering options to help you find exactly what your participants need. This guide walks you through each feature.

The Search Interface

When you open the RST, you’ll see two main views:

  • Split View — Map on the left, listings on the right (default on desktop)
  • List View — All listings in a grid format without the map

Toggle between views using the view mode selector in the toolbar.

Understanding the Map

The interactive map shows available rentals as price markers:

Price Markers

  • Blue markers display the monthly rent
  • Yellow markers indicate the currently selected listing
  • Click any marker to see a quick preview of the property

Map Navigation

  • Zoom in/out using the +/- buttons or your scroll wheel
  • Pan by clicking and dragging the map
  • Click a marker to see property details in a popup

Using Filters

Filters help you narrow down listings to match your participant’s specific needs.

Location Filters

City Filter

Select one or more cities to focus your search:

  1. Click the Cities dropdown
  2. Check the cities you want to include
  3. Results update automatically

County Filter

Quickly filter by county:

  • Jackson County — Medford, Ashland, Central Point, Phoenix, Talent, etc.
  • Josephine County — Grants Pass, Merlin, etc.

Price Filter

Set a maximum rent to match your participant’s budget:

  1. Click the Max Price dropdown
  2. Select the maximum monthly rent
  3. Only listings at or below this price will appear

Bedrooms & Bathrooms

Filter by the number of bedrooms and bathrooms needed for your participant’s household.

Additional Filters

Click More Filters to access:

  • Pets Allowed — Find pet-friendly rentals
  • Parking Available — Important for participants with vehicles
  • Fair Market Rent — Units within HUD Fair Market Rent guidelines
  • Accessibility Features — Units with accessibility accommodations

Clearing Filters

To start fresh, click the Clear Filters button to reset all filters to their defaults.

Sorting Results

Use the sort dropdown to order listings:

  • Newest — Most recently added listings first
  • Oldest — Oldest listings first
  • Price: Low to High — Most affordable first
  • Price: High to Low — Most expensive first

Tips for Effective Searching

Start Broad, Then Narrow

  1. Begin with just location and price
  2. Review the results
  3. Add more filters as needed

Check Multiple Cities

If your participant is flexible on location, search multiple cities at once to see all options.

Save Time with Favorites

Heart listings you want to remember — this saves them for easy access later.
